Traditional Christmas Dinner Program
Every December Parker Street works to provide a boxed Christmas Dinner to HRM families in need. With assistance and funds from the Turkey Club program, over 1,000 families and individuals are helped each year. Our Christmas Hampers contain all the ingredients for a traditional Christmas dinner including potatoes, carrots, turnip, onions, oranges, apples, bananas, sugar, margarine, candy, baked goods, bread, canned milk, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix and a turkey.
With the incredible assistance of dedicated volunteers from the Bedford Institute of Oceanography and other groups as well as the HRM Police, the food boxes are assembled and made available for pick up by clients as well as delivered directly to clients who are unable to visit our facility.
In addition to the Christmas Hamper, donations of toys enable parents to choose appropriate items for their children for Christmas morning.
For more information on how to enrol in this program or to sponsor a family, please call the Food Bank after October 1st at 902-425-2125 Ext. 205.
If you would like to organize a toy drive or Christmas fundraiser please call 902-425-2125 Ext. 207 or email.
We maintain a small emergency fund to help those in a financial crisis with heating oil, utility bills, medical prescriptions and travel for death of a family member. Aide can also be in the form of crisis support as well as referrals to support services. For more information or to apply for assistance, please visit our facility or call us at 425-2125.
